Issued under Emperor Shōwa (1926–1989), this 1 Yen coin circulated between Shōwa year 30 (1955) and Shōwa year 64 (1989). Struck in 100% aluminium, it is one of the lightest coins in modern circulation, weighing only 1 g.
Part of the long‑standing Yen currency system (1871–date), the coin features a milled edge, medal alignment ↑↑, and a simple round design. Valued at 1 JPY (≈ INR 0.59), it was widely used in everyday transactions and remains a collectible piece of Japanese numismatic history.
