Description
1 Pfennig
Issued by the German Democratic Republic (GDR, 1949–1990), the 1 Pfennig coin circulated between 1960 and 1990 under the Mark currency system (1948–1990). Struck in lightweight aluminium, this coin reflects the utilitarian design typical of socialist‑era coinage.
With its milled edge, medal alignment ↑↑, and compact round shape, the coin was widely used until it was demonetized on 1 July 1991, following German reunification. Today, it stands as a collectible piece of East German monetary history.
