Description
1 Franc – Albert II French text
Issued under King Albert II (1993–2013), the 1 Franc coin circulated between 1994 and 2001 as part of Belgium’s Franc currency system (1832–2001). Struck in nickel‑plated iron (Ni 3%, Steel 94%, Ni 3%), this coin represents Belgium’s late‑20th‑century coinage prior to the adoption of the Euro.
With its milled edge, variable alignment ↺, and compact round design, the coin weighs 2.75 g and measures 18 mm in diameter. It was demonetized on 28 February 2002, following Belgium’s transition to the Euro, and today stands as a collectible piece of modern European numismatic history.
