Description
5 Centimes
Issued during the Fifth Republic (1958–date), the 5 Centimes coin circulated between 1966 and 2001 under the New Franc currency system (1960–2001). Struck in aluminium‑nickel bronze (92% copper, 6% aluminium, 2% nickel), this lightweight coin was a staple of everyday French commerce in the late 20th century.
With its milled edge, coin alignment ↑↓, and compact round design, the coin was widely used until it was demonetized on 17 February 2002, following France’s transition to the Euro. Today, it remains a collectible piece of French numismatic history.
